GWM POER – Brand History

1. Brand Background

GWM POER is a premium pickup truck brand under Great Wall Motor (GWM), one of China’s leading automotive manufacturers. Founded in 1984, GWM has long focused on SUVs and pickup trucks, building strong expertise in durability, off-road capability, and global exports.
The launch of GWM POER marks a major step in transforming Chinese pickups from purely commercial vehicles into high-end, passenger-oriented, and globally competitive products.


2. Brand Launch (2019)

In 2019, GWM officially introduced the POER brand and released its first model, the POER Passenger Pickup.
Built on GWM’s new P71 pickup platform, the vehicle features a body-on-frame structure and offers advanced comfort, safety, and intelligent technologies, positioning it directly against established international pickup brands.


3. Product Line Expansion (2020–2021)

Following its launch, GWM POER quickly developed a complete product lineup, including:

  • Passenger POER – for daily driving and family use

  • Commercial POER – designed for work and utility

  • Off-road POER – enhanced for extreme terrain and outdoor use

From 2020 onward, GWM POER became China’s best-selling pickup brand, reinforcing its leadership in the domestic market.


4. Global Market Expansion (2021–Present)

As part of GWM’s global strategy, POER entered international markets and is now available in:

  • South America

  • Australia

  • Africa

  • Southeast Asia

In overseas markets, the vehicle is sold as GWM POER or GWM UTE, earning recognition for its reliability, rich features, and strong value for money.


5. Technology Upgrades & New Energy Development (2022–Present)

GWM POER continues to evolve through technological innovation, offering:

  • Diesel, petrol, and hybrid (HEV) powertrains

  • Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)
