According to the China Passenger Car Association on January 12, BYD ranked first with 3.718 million units sold, up 37.4% year-on-year, accounting for 34.1% of the total new energy vehicle market.
Geely Auto's year-on-year growth rate reached 94.0%, showing its strong growth momentum in the new energy vehicle field.
But Geely Auto is not the automaker with the fastest sales growth. Chery Automobile's new energy vehicle sales in 2024 will be 432,600, a year-on-year increase of 258.9%; Seres Automobile's sales in 2024 will be 386,000, a year-on-year increase of 269.8%, and it is also the new energy automaker with the largest year-on-year increase.
In 2024, GAC Aion's new energy vehicle retail sales will be 367,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 24.1%. At the same time, GAC Aion is also the only automaker that has fallen in the TOP10 retail ranking of new energy vehicle companies in 2024.
Great Wall Motor's sales in 2024 were 292,000 units, a year-on-year increase of 23.2%, with a market share of 2.7%.
The year-on-year growth rate of Great Wall's new energy vehicle retail sales is only better than that of GAC Aion and Tesla China, which have negative growth. The latter's retail sales in 2024 were 657,000 units, ranking third in the retail ranking of new energy vehicle companies in 2024.
Overall, the new energy vehicle market is highly competitive, and the sales and market share of various manufacturers are constantly changing, but the concentration of the new energy market is increasing, and sales are gathering towards the leading new energy vehicle companies headed by BYD.
Taking BYD, which ranks first, and Great Wall Motors, which ranks 10th, as examples, BYD Auto's new energy vehicle retail sales and market share are 10 times that of Great Wall Motors.
It is worth noting that in the TOP10 list, except for SERES, which is considered a new force in the auto industry, Geely Auto, Changan Automobile, and Chery Automobile are all traditional car manufacturers with a year-on-year growth rate of more than 50% in 2024.
This data also shows that traditional car manufacturers of independent brands have quickly adapted to the competition in the new energy market, and are rapidly seizing the market previously occupied by new forces.
