GWM ORA Cat Series – Brand History

1. Brand Background

ORA is a pure electric vehicle brand under Great Wall Motor (GWM), officially launched in 2018.
The brand focuses on urban electric mobility, combining stylish design, safety, and intelligent technology. ORA is widely known for its user-friendly approach and distinctive design philosophy.

The Cat Series is ORA’s most iconic product line, characterized by retro-inspired, rounded, and fashionable styling, which has helped the brand stand out in the global EV market.


2. Origins of the Cat Series: ORA R1 / Black Cat (2018–2019)

The Cat Series began with the launch of ORA R1, later renamed Black Cat.
Positioned as a compact city EV, it offered affordable pricing, practical driving range, and easy maneuverability, quickly gaining popularity among first-time EV users and young urban drivers.


3. White Cat: Family-Oriented Upgrade (2020)

In 2020, ORA introduced the White Cat, featuring improvements in interior space, safety systems, and overall comfort.
This model expanded the Cat Series toward family use while maintaining its compact, city-friendly character.


4. Good Cat: A Breakthrough Model (2020–2021)

The launch of ORA Good Cat marked a major milestone for the Cat Series.
With a blend of retro aesthetics and modern technology, Good Cat offered higher-level driver assistance systems, improved battery performance, and premium interior quality.

The model achieved strong sales in China and became ORA’s key export vehicle to Europe, where it is marketed as GWM ORA 03 in several countries.


5. GT & Sport Versions: Personalization and Performance (2021–2022)

To meet growing demand for individuality and sportier styling, ORA expanded the lineup with:

  • Good Cat GT

  • Sport-oriented and performance-styled variants

These models enhanced brand image through bold design elements and dynamic tuning.


6. Global Expansion & Technology Evolution (2022–Present)

The ORA Cat Series continues to expand into international markets, including:
