In 2024, the annual export volume of electric vehicles exceeded 2 million for the first time.

In 2023, according to the data disclosed by the General Administration of Customs, a total of 5.221 million vehicles were exported throughout the year, of which 1.773 million were electric vehicles, an increase of 57.4% year-on-year; in 2023, a total of 1.773 million electric vehicles were exported, an increase of 67.1% year-on-year.

Based on this calculation, the annual export volume of electric vehicles in 2024 was 2.0053 million.

This is also the first time that China's new energy vehicle exports have exceeded 2 million.

 In recent years, China's automobile exports have repeatedly set new highs: in 2021, it exceeded 2 million for the first time, in 2022, it exceeded 3 million, and in 2023, it crossed two steps to reach 5.221 million.

01 China's top 20 automobile export brands

According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, among the top 20 Chinese automobile export brands in 2024, Chery brand became the automobile brand with the most exported cars with 881,500.

MG ranked second with 461,000 vehicles, but MG's exports in 2024 fell by 27.62% year-on-year.

BYD, Geely, Haval, Tesla, Changan, Jietu, Baojun and Kia ranked among the top 10 Chinese auto export brands in 2024.

It is worth noting that among the top 20 Chinese auto export brands in 2024, Chery, Jietu and Xingtu are all brands under Chery Automobile Group, and the three brands exported a total of 1.1126 million vehicles.

BYD exported a total of 405,800 vehicles in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 67.16%. 

Tesla exported a total of 259,600 vehicles in 2024, a year-on-year decrease of 24.56%.

The top 11-20 Chinese auto export brands in 2024 are: JAC Motors, GAC Trumpchi, Roewe, Volvo, Buick, Xingtu, Wuling, Lincoln, Tank, and Hyundai. 

The top 20 Chinese auto export brands in 2024 exported a total of 4.1379 million vehicles throughout the year.

02 Top20 Chinese Automobile Export Models

In terms of models, Tiggo 7 will become the largest Chinese car export model in 2024, with a total export of 238,200 units, a year-on-year increase of 33.3%.

Tesla Model 3 ranks second with 183,200 exports, a year-on-year increase of 19.2%.

MG ZS exports 167,100 units, giving up the throne of the export champion model, a year-on-year decrease of 17.2%.

Tesla Model Y will export a total of 76,380 units in 2024, a year-on-year drop of 59.9%.

In 2023, Tesla Model Y will export a total of 190,000 units, ranking second only to MG ZS.

Tiggo 5X, Haval First Love, Ou Mengda, Song PLUS, MG 3, Binyue, and Tiggo 8 are all among the top 10 Chinese car export models in 2024. 

Among the top 20 Chinese car export models in 2024, there are 6 models from Chery Automobile, the export champion car company, including Tiggo 7, Tiggo 5X, Ou Mengda, Tiggo 8, Tiggo 3X, and Jetour Traveler. This shows Chery Automobile's strong export competitiveness.
