Chery Jaguar Land Rover Announces New Model: FREELANDER 8 Pre-sale Starts on August 10

On July 30, the first mass-produced FREELANDER 8 rolled off the production line at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover plant in Changshu, China. The company also confirmed that pre-sales will officially begin on August 10, marking the first production model under the newly established FREELANDER new energy vehicle brand.

Formerly known as a Land Rover model name, FREELANDER has now become an independent premium NEV brand jointly developed by Chery and Jaguar Land Rover. From the brand's debut in March to the production-ready vehicle, the development process took only a few months.

Bold SUV Design

The FREELANDER 8 closely follows the Concept 97 design, featuring:

Closed front grille with illuminated FREELANDER lettering
Boxy SUV styling with straight body lines
Roof rails for outdoor versatility
Distinctive sloping C-pillar design

Inside, the vehicle adopts a 2+2+2 six-seat layout, with independent captain's chairs in the second row for enhanced passenger comfort.

The FREELANDER 8 comes standard with:

Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving system
896-line LiDAR
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 cockpit processor (first production model globally to use this chip)

Compared with the Snapdragon 8295 platform, the new 8397 offers:

CPU performance: 3× higher
GPU performance: Nearly 3× higher
AI (NPU) performance: Up to 12× higher

The cockpit system and intelligent driving platform operate independently, with Qualcomm handling infotainment while Huawei powers the advanced driver assistance system.

Physical shortcut buttons for easier operation
Rear entertainment screen

Extended-Range Powertrain

The currently announced version is an Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) equipped with:

1.5T range extender
Maximum engine output: 115 kW
60.33 kWh battery
221 km pure electric range (CLTC)

The vehicle is built on an 800V high-voltage platform and will use CATL batteries, supporting high-speed DC fast charging. Detailed charging specifications and total driving range will be announced during the pre-sale event.

Off-Road Capability

Unlike many urban SUVs, the FREELANDER 8 also focuses on off-road performance.
