In October 2024, Australia sold 99,969 cars, down 6.4% from the same period last year, but this result is still the second best October performance in history. The best October sales record was last year, reaching 106,809. From a full-year perspective, Australia's car sales reached 1,028,376 from January to October 2024, a year-on-year increase of 2.2%.
In terms of brands, MG and Great Wall still rank in the top ten. MG's sales in October were 5,206 units, down 14.7% year-on-year, but still ranked seventh. Great Wall (3,350 units) performed well in September, with sales increasing by 12.9% year-on-year, ranking ninth. BYD and Chery ranked 16th and 18th respectively, while LDV (1,216 units) also successfully made it into the top 20. It is worth mentioning that Leapmotor entered the Australian market for the first time in October and achieved sales of 35 vehicles.
In October, the sales performance of two Korean brands, Hyundai (7,086 units) and Kia (6,602 units), was particularly outstanding, with year-on-year growth rates of 7% and 16.9% respectively. Although Toyota's sales fell by nearly 10%, it still topped the list with a clear advantage. Ford's sales were basically the same as the same period last year, with sales of 8,581 units, a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.3%. However, the performance of Mazda (7,656 units), Mitsubishi (5,590 units) and Isuzu (3,651 units) was disappointing, with declines of more than 10%, among which Mazda fell 17.8% year-on-year.
In terms of models, Toyota RAV4 sold 18,471 units in October and continued to perform well in the Australian market. In this pickup-dominated market, this Toyota SUV has been the monthly sales champion for four consecutive months. In contrast, the sales of two popular pickup trucks, Ford Ranger (8,581 units) and Toyota Hilux (7,656 units), both fell by more than 20%. Ford Everest (7,086 units) performed well, increasing by 48% year-on-year, ranking fourth. Isuzu pickup truck D-MAX (6,602 units) fell sharply (-28.2%), but still ranked fifth.
Among the brands in the Chinese market, MG SUV ZS (3,116 units) had the highest sales, but fell by more than 30% year-on-year. However, MG MG4 performed very well, with sales nearly doubling, an increase of 97.9% year-on-year, and its ranking jumped from 65th in September to 16th.
