After announcing its investment in Mexico in August this year, MG Motors (MG) recently announced its detailed investment plan: the company will build a new assembly plant in Mexico with an investment of US$1.05 billion and an annual production of 100,000 vehicles.
At the same time, MG Motors (MG) also announced the "MG 2.0" strategy, which focuses on driving transformation and technological innovation in Latin American business and positioning Mexico as the operational center of the region.
Zhang Wei, president of MG Motors Mexico, stressed that this stage marks an important step in the company's journey to automotive technology leadership. He said: "We are preparing for a new era for MG Motors, an era of transformation, innovation and expansion."
It is reported that MG Motors' investment includes US$450 million for infrastructure and US$500 million for advanced production equipment. The emphasis on technology is intended to strengthen MG's competitiveness in the Latin American automotive market and meet the needs of increasingly discerning consumers.
The plant will not only serve the local market, but will also play a strategic role as a production center in Latin America. MG currently serves 25 countries in the region and aims to expand to 34 countries by 2025.

This year marks the fourth year of MG's operation in Mexico; in four years, MG has achieved rapid development in Mexico. With a sales network covering the whole of Mexico and sales of more than 160,000 units, MG has won the trust of Mexican consumers and has become a leading Chinese brand in the Mexican automotive market.
In addition to establishing a production plant and R&D center in Mexico in the future, MG will also strengthen the construction of a customer support network, such as a parts distribution center and a training center in San Luis Potosi to train the agency team.
With the support of its parent company SAIC Group, MG hopes to make Mexico an innovation center for the entire Latin America. Zhang Wei concluded: "Through the new plant and R&D center, our goal is to make Mexico an advanced technology center in Latin America."
Mexican media commented that MG's expansion is expected to promote the development of the Mexican automotive industry and consolidate the brand's position as a leader in technology and innovation in Latin America, ushering in a new era for the company in the region.
