WEY V8X PHEV Launches August 14 — Great Wall's New Large Five-Seat Mid-to-Large SUV Arrives

Positioning: A Large Five-Seat Mid-to-Large SUV
The WEY V8X PHEV is a large five-seat mid-to-large SUV. It has become increasingly common for automakers to launch standalone five-seat flagship models, and this approach makes practical sense — many consumers simply don't need a third row of seats. Design-wise, the V8X can essentially be viewed as a "scaled-down V9X," sharing an almost identical design language with its larger sibling.

Exterior Design: Distinctive and Highly Original
The front end is highly recognizable: the hood's leading edge features a full-width light bar, flanked by matrix LED headlight clusters with lens elements, and a simple WEY badge sits at the center — free of any additional decorative complexity. The lower half of the front end follows the same closed-off design philosophy, with an active grille shutter positioned below. Opinions on this design vary — some have noted a resemblance to the previous-generation AITO M7 — but the overall level of originality is actually quite high, and the two designs differ substantially upon closer inspection.
The side profile follows mainstream mid-to-large SUV design conventions, though the V8X conveys a notably solid, substantial presence — a trait shared across Great Wall's model lineup. Traditional mechanical door handles, now relatively rare in this vehicle class, are retained. Dense-spoke alloy wheels serve as an added touch, with 255-width tires and 21-inch wheels front and rear.
The rear is similarly understated and built for lasting appeal rather than immediate visual impact. A full-width taillight complements the large "WEY" brand lettering above it. The lower right corner of the rear bears the "Hi4" badge, while the lower left corner carries the "WEY V8X" model badge.

Dimensions: A Genuine Mid-to-Large SUV
As a true mid-to-large SUV, the WEY V8X PHEV measures 5,125mm in length, 2,025mm in width, and 1,821mm in height, with a 3,050mm wheelbase. A sportier variant is also offered, measuring 5,040mm in length and 1,808mm in height with a 2,968mm wheelbase. The entire lineup uses a five-seat layout. The sport variant appears positioned similarly to the Zeekr 8X, though the mainstream, family-oriented version remains the primary sales focus.
The five-seat layout gives the V8X a clear advantage in cargo capacity: standard trunk volume is 864 liters, expanding to 2,225 liters with the rear seats folded down.

Interior and Features: Large Connected Displays Become the Norm
The interior follows a conventional large dual-screen layout. Following Li Auto's lead, large connected-screen setups have become mainstream in the market, reflecting strong consumer acceptance. Unlike Li Auto, however, the V8X retains a standalone digital instrument cluster in front of the driver rather than eliminating it entirely.
The car will also come equipped with a 29-inch head-up display, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P Pro chip. Feature content is similarly generous, including a fold-out tray table, zero-gravity seats, and an onboard refrigerator. Feature richness and material quality have long been strengths for WEY, and combined with years of accumulated brand reputation, build quality remains relatively reassuring by domestic-brand standards.

Powertrain: Two Configurations, Both Exceeding 450 Horsepower
On the powertrain side, the WEY V8X PHEV offers two configurations: a 1.5T engine paired with dual-motor all-wheel drive, and a 2.0T engine paired with dual-motor all-wheel drive. Combined motor output is 449 horsepower in both configurations, with the difference lying in engine output — 170 horsepower for the former, rising to 238 horsepower for the latter. Combined system power is 450kW and 500kW respectively, with combined torque of 790Nm and 930Nm, and 0–100 km/h acceleration times of 4.9 seconds and 4.5 seconds respectively.
For an SUV measuring over 5.1 meters in length and weighing roughly 2.7 tonnes, this level of performance is genuinely strong. Notably, the V8X has a minimum turning radius of just 5 meters, comes standard with dual-chamber air suspension, and higher trims add a rear-wheel steering system with up to 20 degrees of angle in both directions — further improving maneuverability for such a large vehicle.

Range and Fuel Economy: Strong Depleted-Battery Efficiency
For range, the vehicle comes standard with a 66.6 kWh ternary lithium battery from SVOLT Energy, supporting 6C fast charging. Under WLTC conditions, pure-electric range is 312 km, with combined range reaching 1,379/1,361 km. For plug-in hybrids, depleted-battery fuel consumption is another key metric — the WEY V8X PHEV achieves just 6.0L/6.1L per 100km (WLTC conditions), a strong result given its performance level and vehicle size.
