Recently, the upcoming 2025 BYD Shark plug-in hybrid pickup truck has started undisguised testing on Australian roads, and the first mass-produced models will arrive at dealers early next year.
Recently, foreign media discovered a blue Shark pickup truck road test, which appeared in New South Wales, while X (formerly Twitter) user Richard Laxton photographed a white Shark pickup truck in Victoria.
A few weeks ago, the Australian government database announced the price of the basic model of BYD's new pickup truck, which is 68,000 Australian dollars (about 326,500 yuan). BYD Australia has not confirmed the price and said that the local recommended retail price has not yet been determined, while the company's New Zealand branch has flatly denied its accuracy.
Warren Willmot, BYD New Zealand brand manager, told local website EVs and Beyond: "Pricing for the right-hand drive model market in the Asia-Pacific region has not yet been determined." In the past year, several BYD Shark prototypes have appeared on Australian roads, but they have all adopted varying degrees of camouflage.
The BYD Shark is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine coupled with two electric motors - 170kW/310Nm at the front axle and 150kW/340Nm at the rear axle - for a claimed combined power output of 320kW. In terms of actual performance, BYD claims that the car is equipped with a 29.6kWh battery pack, a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.7 seconds, a hybrid range of 840km, and a pure electric range of 100km.
