According to reports, Chery Automobile started selling its Omoda 5 crossover SUV gasoline version in Italy on July 5, with a starting price of 27,900 euros in overseas markets. Chery is also one of several Chinese auto brands to launch economical cars in Europe, having started selling them in the Spanish market earlier this year.
According to a speech by Chery Automobile's vice president in Milan last Thursday, Chery Automobile is currently expanding in the Milan area and plans to enter more than 60 new markets around the world in the next three years. At the same time, after the European Union decided on Thursday to impose tariffs on imports of Chinese electric vehicles, Chery reportedly said that Chery Omoda 5 will launch an EV pure electric version in the Italian market in September. At the end of this year, Chery Automobile will also launch its larger Jaecoo 7 SUV model (called Exploration 06 C-DM in the domestic market) in the Italian market, which includes gasoline and plug-in hybrid versions. By the end of 2025, Chery plans to launch three SUV models each under the Omoda and Jaecoo brands, and provide a variety of fuel types to serve different regions in Europe. In addition, Chery also reached an agreement with a local Spanish partner earlier this year and will produce cars in Barcelona, and is currently seeking a second production base in the region. Electric vehicles will be subject to an additional tariff of 20.8%.
