On the morning of January 16, BYD officially released the first teaser images of two flagship models under its Ocean Network — the SEAL 08 sedan and the SEALION 08 SUV. Branded as the Ocean Network’s “8 Series Dual Flagships,” this marks the first official public appearance of the two models, following their initial mention at BYD’s Ocean Day 4th Anniversary User Festival in December 2025.

According to BYD, both vehicles are scheduled for official launch in the first quarter of 2026. Their arrival is expected to complete the Ocean Network’s product lineup, covering the full spectrum from entry-level to high-end segments.

Clear Differentiation in Positioning and Design

From the latest information, BYD has clearly differentiated the design direction and market positioning of the two flagships.

SEAL 08: C-Segment Large Executive Sedan

The SEAL 08 is positioned as a C-segment large flagship sedan. Its production version closely follows the design language of the previously unveiled Ocean-S Concept, with a projected body length exceeding 5 meters and a wheelbase surpassing 3 meters.

The vehicle maintains a low-slung fastback coupe profile, featuring elongated lines and smooth, flowing surfaces. To balance production feasibility with aerodynamic efficiency, the concept car’s coach doors have been replaced by semi-hidden door handles.

At the front, the SEAL 08 adopts a closed grille design paired with slim, sharp headlights. The lower air intake design bears a strong resemblance to Avatr-style aesthetics, reinforcing its futuristic appeal. At the rear, the concept’s full-width LED taillight is retained, complemented by privacy glass, delivering a distinctly high-tech visual identity.

SEALION 08: Mid-to-Large Family-Oriented SUV

The SEALION 08 is positioned as a mid-to-large SUV, featuring a more upright, robust design language. The body appears wide and muscular, with dynamic character lines along the sides.

The front end uses a split-headlamp layout, with the main lighting units positioned lower and large air channels integrated beneath them. The roofline slopes gently toward the rear, maintaining a balanced silhouette.

At the back, the SUV features a forward-leaning rear windshield, roof spoiler, and full-width taillight design. Its larger dimensions are expected to support a three-row seating layout, clearly targeting family-oriented consumers who require space and versatility.

Interior: A New “Moonrise Over the Sea” Design Language

Both models are set to debut BYD’s all-new interior concept known as “Moonrise Over the Sea.”
The cabin is expected to feature:

• A black fan-shaped center console

• Blue wave-pattern decorative elements

• Layered visual depth inspired by marine themes

According to supply chain sources and BYD’s earnings calls:

• The vehicles may debut the second-generation Blade Battery

• 40% improvement in volumetric efficiency compared to the first generation

EV versions are expected to offer:

• 700 km starting range

• High-end variants potentially exceeding 1,000 km

With the launch of the 8 Series Dual Flagships, BYD Ocean Network officially completes its product coverage — from entry-level models such as Seagull and Dolphin, to mid-range SEAL and SEALION, and now to high-end flagship offerings.

In 2025, BYD Ocean Network achieved 2.22 million units in annual sales, with 188,000 units sold in December alone. However, the majority of sales came from lower-priced models, leaving a gap in the mid-to-high-end market.

Against this backdrop, the SEAL 08 and SEALION 08 carry the strategic mission of breaking through the RMB 200,000 price segment, strengthening BYD’s premium image, and supporting the brand’s long-term upward positioning.
