Under what circumstances do you need to clean the throttle?
- The throttle is a component that controls the amount of air intake in the engine. When you step on the accelerator, the throttle opening size is controlled by the throttle cable or the throttle position sensor signal to change the engine speed.
- For the throttle controlled by the cable, an idle valve will be installed on or near the throttle to control the idle air intake. This should be cleaned together when cleaning the throttle.
- A simple way to judge whether the throttle is dirty: When the gearbox is in neutral or P gear, lightly step on the accelerator, then quickly release the accelerator, and observe that the tachometer pointer will pause (buffer) when it reaches the idle speed, and then stabilize to the idle position. If the pointer continues to fall, accompanied by engine shaking, it means that the throttle should be cleaned. If the vehicle glides and stalls, or the engine is unstable, the throttle should also be cleaned.
- It is not recommended to clean the throttle frequently if there is no fault phenomenon. The surface of the throttle is relatively smooth, and scratches will appear if it is cleaned frequently. In addition, the slight corrosion of chemical cleaning agents will cause the surface to be uneven, which is more likely to adhere to sediments.
- The throttle generally has carbon deposits when the vehicle travels about 20,000 kilometers. If the vehicle fails to start, stalls at idle, or the engine lights up red, you should consider cleaning the throttle.
